The Pulse of the Market

The Pulse of the Market is a documentary project exploring the daily life and community spirit of South Melbourne Market. As a commercial photographer stepping into documentary work, I was drawn to the market’s unique energy - its blend of tradition, labour, and local culture.

Through this project, I aim to capture more than just a place of trade. The market is a social hub where relationships are built over time - between vendors and customers, across generations of families, and among strangers sharing space. Each image documents quiet, everyday moments that reveal a deeper story of connection, care, and resilience.

This work is a reflection on the value of community in a fast-paced, digital world. South Melbourne Market represents a space where human interaction still matters - and where the pulse of the place is felt through the people who make it what it is.
